Kolache
In bowl add:
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sugar
2 packages yeast
Mix with electric beater.
In pan, add:
1 1/4 cup water
1/2 cup milk
1/3 cup oil
Heat until very warm, 130 degrees. Add this to the flour mixture and beat for two minutes, very fast, until smooth.
Add:
2 eggs plus
1/2 cup flour
Beat on fast (high).
Add flour to make a soft dough:
2 to 3 cups flour.
Knead until smooth.
Let sit for 20 minutes. Make into balls. Let rise 1 hour. To make into kolache, fill and let rise 1/2 hour. Bake at 325 degrees. (Not sure how long)
Notes on the card: Verna O (I wonder if this is the source of this recipe?) I let the dough raise longer and work it down twice before making it into rolls. I used lard also.

Mayme Bouzek Kopecky's Hard Tack Recipe
Bring to a boil in a large pan:
2 cups sugar
2 cups molasses
1/2 cup butter
Add 4 teaspoons baking soda to 2 1/2 tablespoons hot water and mix together. Shut the burner off and add the soda mixture. It will be very foamy.
In a large bowl, mix:
8 cups flour
2 cups chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans or other nut of your choice)
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
The dough is quite warm when I add the flour mixture. Mix together and divide into two equal parts. Dust the table with flour. Roll the dough out as thin as possible. Cut into shapes with a pizza cutter.
Do not grease the cookie sheet.
Bake for 8 minutes at 360 degrees.
